One doesn’t ordinarily associate social media with biotech, but increasingly, biotech and other life science businesses are using and encountering social media in global markets. Join us as Rupa Cornell, Senior Director and Legal Counsel at Biogen discusses some of the issues that a global biotech company like Biogen faces in today’s networked global markets and the challenges and opportunities that social media presents in different and highly regulated markets such as Japan, Europe and the US.
Biogen develops, manufactures and markets innovative therapies for patients living with serious neurological, autoimmune and rare diseases. Rupa Cornell provides legal advice on social media platforms, activities and policies for Biogen and serves as a member of its Social Media Council. She is also the Lead Counsel for the Specialty Medicines Group (SMG), representing over $8 billion in annual revenue for the company. Rupa actively advises the management team for SMG on strategy and direction for the business, as well as providing day-to-day support for a variety of functions involved in SMG. Rupa joined Biogen in 2014. Prior to Biogen, Rupa was Senior Counsel at Boston Scientific Corporation, a worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices, for 8 years. At BSC, Rupa was the primary legal counsel for social media matters and advised various businesses and functions. Rupa has been practicing law for over 18 years.
